Tear off: Strip
off all roofing shingles, replace any bad wood decking, Install Ice
& Water Shield, Apply felt to all exposed wood decking,
Re-Roofing: Apply
new shingles over existing layer. If roof has only one layer of
shingles, and the decking is flat and in good conditions, then it is no
necessary to tear-off existing layer of damaged shingles. However if the
roof inspection reveals signs of rotting or warping, if the structure
sags along the ridge or truss lines, if there is more than one layer of
shingles already applied to the roof's surface, or the shingles do not
allow the new ones to lie flat if applied, then the existing roof has to
be torn off completely and removed.
